What is Invisalign and how does it work?

Invisalign is a system of custom-made clear plastic trays, called aligners, that gradually move your teeth into the correct position. Each tray is worn for one to two weeks before being swapped for the next in the sequence. Over time your teeth shift into alignment without anyone noticing you are in treatment.

At Danforth Dental Centre we use 3D digital scanning to map your teeth precisely and plan your full treatment before the first aligner is made. You see a preview of your projected result before committing to anything.

Is Invisalign right for you?

Invisalign works for a wide range of cases. It suits most teens and adults, though some complex bite corrections are still better handled with traditional braces. These are the situations it addresses well.

  • Crowded teeth that overlap or have no room to sit straight
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Mild to moderate overbites and underbites
  • Crossbites where upper and lower teeth do not meet correctly
  • Teeth that have shifted after previous orthodontic treatment
  • Adults who want a straighter smile without the look of metal braces
  • Teenagers with fully erupted permanent teeth

Not sure if your case qualifies? A free consultation with Dr. Strugurescu is the quickest way to find out.

How much does Invisalign cost in Toronto?

In Toronto, Invisalign typically costs between $4,000 and $8,000 depending on the complexity of the case and the number of aligners needed. Simpler corrections sit at the lower end. Full comprehensive treatment for adults sits higher.

How Invisalign treatment works at our Danforth clinic

Most treatment takes between six and eighteen months. Here is what happens at each stage.

Step 1. Free consultation

Dr. Strugurescu assesses your teeth, discusses your goals and confirms whether Invisalign suits your case. No charge and no obligation.

Step 2. 3D digital scan

we scan your teeth to create a precise model, map your full treatment plan and give you a digital preview of your final smile.

Step 3. Aligners manufactured

your custom trays are made and delivered to our Danforth clinic, usually within two to three weeks.

Step 4. Wearing your aligners

each set is worn for one to two weeks, 20 to 22 hours a day. Remove them only to eat, drink anything except water, brush and floss.

Step 5. Regular check-ins

we see you every six to eight weeks to monitor progress and hand over your next sets. When treatment ends we fit a retainer to hold the result.

How to look after your Invisalign aligners

Keeping them clean is straightforward. These are the habits that make the biggest difference.

Rinse under lukewarm water every time you remove them

Brush gently with a soft toothbrush and clear soap, not toothpaste which scratches the surface

Use Invisalign cleaning crystals or a retainer solution once a day

Never eat or drink anything except plain water while wearing them

Brush and floss before putting them back in after meals

Store in the case when not in your mouth

Smoking note: If you smoke, remove your aligners first. Smoking with them in stains the trays permanently and shortens their lifespan.

Questions patients ask before starting Invisalign

If yours is not here, call us at (647) 930-5884 or bring it up at your free consultation.

Most cases at our Danforth clinic take between 6 and 18 months. Simple corrections can finish in as little as 6 months. More complex cases take longer. Dr. Strugurescu will give you a realistic timeline at your free consultation after assessing your teeth.

Most dental insurance plans in Canada cover a portion of Invisalign under their orthodontic benefit, typically between $1,500 and $3,000 depending on your plan. CDCP covers orthodontic treatment for eligible cases. We check your coverage before your first appointment and handle billing directly so you are not chasing your insurer.

For most adults, yes. Invisalign is virtually invisible, removable for eating and cleaning, and more comfortable day to day. The one exception is complex bite corrections where traditional braces still perform better clinically. We offer both and will tell you honestly which one suits your case. For a full comparison see our orthodontics page.

Often yes, particularly for mild to moderate cases. Invisalign treatment for adults typically runs 6 to 18 months compared to 12 to 24 months for braces. The difference depends entirely on the complexity of your case. Some severe corrections still move faster with braces.

Call us as soon as you notice. In most cases we order a replacement from the same point in your treatment or move you to the next tray slightly early. Do not leave a gap in wearing time as your teeth can shift back quickly. We keep your 3D scan on file so replacements are straightforward.

Yes, because you remove the aligners before eating. You can eat whatever you like. The only rule is to brush and floss before putting them back in. Eating or drinking anything other than plain water while wearing the trays stains them and can warp the plastic.

At Danforth Dental Centre, Invisalign typically costs between $4,000 and $8,000 depending on your case. We give you a written cost estimate at your free consultation. Most insurance plans cover a portion and flexible payment plans are available. Full CDCP coverage details are on our CDCP page.

It is not painful but you will feel pressure for the first day or two after switching to a new tray. That is normal and means the aligners are working. Over-the-counter pain relief handles it easily if needed. Most patients stop noticing the trays entirely after the first week or two.

Yes. Invisalign Teen is designed specifically for younger patients with fully erupted permanent teeth. It includes compliance indicators that show whether the aligners are being worn enough, and allows for some eruption of teeth that are still coming through. We assess suitability at the consultation.

Results vary by case but the most common outcomes are straighter, better-spaced teeth with a more even bite. At your free consultation we use 3D scanning to show you a digital preview of your projected result before any treatment begins. You will be able to see what your smile could look like before committing to anything.

Yes, and this applies to all orthodontic treatment, not just Invisalign. Once your teeth have moved into position they need something to hold them there. We fit a custom retainer at the end of your treatment. Most patients wear it full time for the first few months and then at night from there on.
